Attention Dog Owners – Pubic Notice


Please Be Aware That The Removal & Disposal
Of Dog Feces Is Your Responsibility!

The following are excerpts from Ordinance No. 6 of 1983 & Ordinance No. 10 of 1996.

Section 153-1 - All dogs (and cats) within the City of Brigantine shall be licensed. Licenses may be obtained at City Hall, 1417 West Brigantine Avenue.

Any person owning or in charge of any dog which defiles, defecates on or commits any nuisance on any common thoroughfare, sidewalk, passageway, by-path, play area, park, promenade upon the seawall, public school grounds, or upon any public property whatsoever, or upon any private property without the permission of the owner of said property, shall immediately remove feces deposited by any such dog by any sanitary method approved by the Local Enforcement Authority. Materials so removed shall be disposed of by the person owning or in charge of any such dog through a sanitary method such as through use of pooch scoops, small shovels, etc. All such material shall be disposed of in a sealed non-absorbent, leak-proof container. Any owner or person in charge of such dog being walked upon any common thoroughfare, sidewalk, beach, passageway, by-path, play area, park or place where people congregate, must have in their possession their clean-up device and non-absorbent, leak-proof container.

It shall be unlawful for any dog, whether licensed or not, to run at large anywhere within the limits of the City of Brigantine. They must be on a leash that shall not exceed six (6) feet and held by its owner or other person able to control such dog.

No dog shall be taken or permitted upon the public beaches fronting the Atlantic Ocean between 14th Street North and the southernmost jetty from May 30th to September 30th inclusive, and no dog shall be taken or permitted on said beaches between October 1 to May 29th of each year unless said dog shall be securely fastened to a leash. At no time or place within the City of Brigantine (including the north and south end beaches) are dogs permitted to be unleashed.

Any person who violates the provisions of these Ordinances shall be subject to a fine of not less than $100, nor more than $1,000., or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 90 days or both.*

* This included ALL Recreation Facilities and the perimeters, grass planted medial strips and Dune Areas.
