First introduced to the area when his father built a home here in 1953, Murray has since summered, worked and raised a family in Brigantine. As a long time resident of Brigantine he has lived in all four wards of the city. John has continually demonstrated his love of community by his extraordinary level of involvement with many of the local civic groups and commissions. He is a familiar face around town helping with such activities as the annual Halloween parade and events sponsored by the Brigantine Cultural Arts Commission. Johns long list of community activities reads like a Whos Who of Brigantine. He was named the 2006 Citizen of the Year by the Brigantine Lions Club. He is a 7 year veteran of the Brigantine Planning Board, a member of the Brigantine Elks since 1984, a two time past president of the Chamber of Commerce; John continues to serve as a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, a former coach of the Brigantine minor league baseball team, and is on the Board of the Historical Museum. He is a current member of the finance committee of St. Thomas Church, and treasurer of the Brigantine Beach Tourism Commission, a member of the Sons of Italy, and the Knights of Columbus.. In addition, he still finds time for his own business as a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of both the American Institute of CPAs and the NJ Society of CPAs. When John was selected to complete the term of Ed Scoop Kay, he didnt hesitate. Its an exciting time for growth and development in Brigantine, he said and I am proud to be part of it. Murray currently resides in Brigantine with his wife, Kathe (who grew up on the island). His son Jack and wife Christine and a new grandson, John J. Murray V and his daughter Jennifer and her husband, Bill Stroby, also live in Brigantine with their two sons Billy & Nicholas. When he is not working or involved in meetings, John Murray can be found golfing or fishing with his grandsons.
